NPGA’s Women in Propane Council

The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) has approved the creation of the Women in Propane Council. As the employee of one of the great women in propane, I am excited for this new council! So what is its purpose? Here’s what their website says:

  • Encourage the employment of women in the propane industry, including appointments to leadership positions
  • Provide strategies for equal opportunities to minimize obstacles faced by women in the propane industry
  • Promote professional development through educational offerings
  • Develop best practices and resources
  • Advance awareness of the contributions women have made to the propane industry
  •  Offer opportunities for networking and mentoring

LIHEAP Heating Assistance: Pennsylvania

AmeriGas supports LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, for customers who may be having problems affording their heating bills.  LIHEAP is a grant that offers assistance in the form of a cash grant, sent directly to the utility company, or a crisis grant for households in immediate danger of being without heat.

Although it is a federal program, each state administers LIHEAP separately and you should apply directly to your state if you think you are eligible.

PERC Incentives for Residential & Commercial Products

The Propane Educational Resource Center (PERC) promotes the safe and efficient use of propane gas. PERC is now sponsoring the Propane Exceptional Product Program, designed to encourage the adoption of propane-fueled products for both residential and commercial use. PERC encourages homeowners, businesses and construction professionals to use propane-fueled products by providing a financial incentive for qualified participants.

AmeriGas Propane Announces Retirement of Gene Bissell

Several months ago, AmeriGas Propane announced that Gene Bissell would be retiring from his position as President & CEO of AmeriGas Propane, Inc. and that Jerry Sheridan would assume that position upon Gene’s retirement. Gene has announced that his last day in this position will be Friday, March 2, 2012.

Jerry will subsequently assume the position as President & CEO of AmeriGas Propane, effective March 3. Also as previously announced, Paul Grady will then assume the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AmeriGas Propane, Inc., also effective March 3.

We would like to thank Gene for his many contributions to AmeriGas and UGI over the course of his career.

Cheap & Easy Ways to Save Energy in Your Home – Home Heating

My house was built in the 1880′s so it’s not exactly “energy efficient.”  The heating and cooling systems in a home use the most energy, so it’s the single area where you can save the most.  This is the second in a series on some simple home improvements that I’ve done myself to reduce energy consumption and I’ve really seen savings on my utility bills. Today I’ll focus on home heating.

11:16am Just looked out the window and saw an AmeriGas bobtail pull up! Heading outside to grab some pictures – thankfully we’re not having rain at the moment!

10:45am Joe left and let me know that my tank would be filled later today – check back for pictures! He also reminded me that I’m a will-call customer, so I need to call my local AmeriGas office when my tank reaches 35% for a refill.

State of the Union: Spotlight On Clean Energy

Did you catch the State of the Union address last night? While I was watching, I jotted down the following quotes from President Obama’s address:

  • “By 2035, 80 percent of America’s electricity will come from clean energy sources.”
  • “Strategy that’s cleaner, cheaper and full of new jobs.”
  • “Develop every available source of American energy.”
  • “We don’t have to choose between our environment and our economy.”
  • “I will not walk away from the promise of clean energy.”
  • “Pass clean energy tax credits.”

I couldn’t help but be energized by his message, by what it means for our country and especially for this industry. There are many forms of clean energy, some of which our President mentioned last night. One form of clean, green, American energy is propane.

There is one piece of legislation that has been introduced in May 2011 – the Propane Green Autogas Solutions Act (“Propane GAS Act” of 2011). This act would extend the following through 2016:

Find the Nearest AmeriGas Office or Retailer at Our Mobile Site

AmeriGas’ mobile version of AmeriGas.com features an enhanced location finder, job postings, information about the company and contact information.  “We recognize that the needs of the mobile user are different”  says Michael Drauschak, Senior Manager of Marketing Communications.  “The mobile site offers the essentials frequently sought by mobile users and is making doing business with AmeriGas easy.”

The mobile site is optimized for smartphones with iPhone iOS 3.1.3 or above, Android 2.1 or above or Blackberry OS 6.0 or above. AmeriGas.com automatically recognizes when a smartphone user is visiting and defaults to the mobile site.

The mobile site’s location finder pinpoints AmeriGas offices, cylinder exchange, 24/7 cylinder exchange and cylinder refill locations either by using GPS technology to find the locations nearest to the mobile device or by entering a zip code of a different location. Users can select from the results populated on a Google map or from a list view.

Mobile visitors can easily provide customer feedback or address an issue, request more information about becoming a customer or find AmeriGas’ emergency contact number using the mobile site’s contact screens.

There is also a button on the mobile site that links directly to the “full version” of the AmeriGas.com web site.
